What We Collect

Nothing. FocusFilter is built with privacy as a core principle. We do not:

• Collect any personal information
• Track your browsing history or web activity
• Store your social media data on any remote server
• Use analytics or telemetry
• Send any data to third parties
• Use cookies or local storage for tracking purposes

How FocusFilter Works

All content filtering happens locally on your device directly in your browser. When you visit supported social media platforms (X/Twitter, YouTube, Reddit, Instagram), the extension injects content scripts that:

• Read posts in your feed to match against your filter rules
• Hide or blur posts that match your keyword, author, or topic filters
• Keep filtering statistics (post count, estimated time saved) locally
• Store your custom filter rules in Chrome's local storage

No feed content, post text, or user data ever leaves your browser. The extension operates entirely within the page context.

Permissions Used

FocusFilter only requests the permissions strictly necessary for its functionality:

• activeTab — To access the currently active tab on supported social media sites
• storage — To store your filter rules, whitelist, and settings locally using chrome.storage.local
• scripting — To inject content scripts into social media pages for feed filtering
• declarativeContent — To show the extension action on supported websites

Supported Websites

FocusFilter only operates on the following websites:

• X / Twitter (twitter.com, x.com)
• YouTube (youtube.com)
• Reddit (reddit.com)
• Instagram (instagram.com)

It does not access any other websites or web pages.

Data Storage

The following data is stored locally on your device using chrome.storage.local:

• Your keyword filter list
• Your author/username filter list
• Your whitelist keywords
• Filtering statistics (posts filtered count, estimated time saved)
• Your settings and preferences
• Pro license status (if activated)

All of this data stays on your device. We cannot access it, and it is never synced to any server.

Pro License Verification

When you activate a Pro license, the extension makes a single network request to verify your license key. This request only transmits your license key — no browsing data, feed content, or personal information is sent.

• Purpose: Verify purchase validity
• Data sent: License key only
• No personal data is collected or stored server-side

Third-Party Services

FocusFilter does not use any third-party services, analytics tools, tracking pixels, or external APIs for its core functionality. The extension is entirely self-contained.

Data Export & Deletion

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control:

• Export: Use the "Export Rules" feature in the popup to download your filter configuration
• Import: Import previously exported rule sets
• Reset: Use the "Reset Stats" button to clear filtering statistics
• Full deletion: Uninstalling the extension permanently deletes all locally stored data

Updates to This Policy

If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this same URL with an updated "Last Updated" date. We will never change our core commitment to not collecting user data.
