TL;DR — Your Privacy is Our Priority
SoundEqual Pro processes audio directly on your device. We do not collect, store, or transmit any of your browsing data, audio content, or personal information to external servers. All settings are saved locally in your browser.
1. Introduction
Welcome to SoundEqual Pro ("we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use the SoundEqual Pro Chrome extension (the "Extension"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.
By using SoundEqual Pro, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
We collect minimal data — and what we collect stays on your device.
2.1 Data Stored Locally on Your Device
The Extension stores the following information locally in your browser's storage (chrome.storage.local):
- Extension settings: Your chosen equalizer mode, target loudness level, compression preferences, and per-site settings.
- License key: If you purchase a Pro license, your license key is stored locally for activation verification.
- Site preferences: Per-website mode preferences (only if you enable site memory).
This data never leaves your browser. We cannot access it, and it is not synced to any cloud service.
2.2 Data We Do NOT Collect
SoundEqual Pro does not collect or transmit:
- Your browsing history or websites visited
- Audio content from any tab
- Personal identifiers (name, email, etc.)
- Device information or fingerprints
- Usage analytics or tracking data
- Cookies or tracking beacons
3. How Audio Processing Works
SoundEqual Pro uses Chrome's tabCapture API to capture audio from the active tab and processes it through the Web Audio API (DynamicsCompressorNode) in an offscreen document.
- All processing happens locally on your device
- Audio data is never recorded, stored, or sent anywhere
- When you stop the equalizer, the audio stream is immediately terminated
- No audio leaves your browser
4. License Verification
If you activate a Pro license, the Extension sends your license key to our license verification server (websnap-license.orangecc2025.workers.dev) solely for the purpose of validating your purchase.
- We only receive the license key and product identifier
- We do not receive any personal information or browsing data
- The verification server does not log IP addresses or usage patterns
5. Third-Party Services
SoundEqual Pro uses the following third-party services:
- Chrome Web Store: Distribution and updates — governed by Google's privacy policy.
- Gumroad: Payment processing for Pro licenses — governed by Gumroad's privacy policy. When you purchase through Gumroad, we receive only your license key and order confirmation (no payment details).
- Cloudflare Workers: License verification endpoint — no user data is stored.
6. Permissions Justification
SoundEqual Pro requests the following Chrome permissions:
- tabCapture: To capture audio from the active tab for loudness normalization. Only when you explicitly start the equalizer.
- offscreen: To create an offscreen document for Web Audio API processing (required for MV3).
- storage: To save your settings and license key locally.
- tabs: To manage per-tab audio processing and site-specific settings.
- activeTab: To identify the current tab when you interact with the extension.
- commands: To support keyboard shortcuts for toggling and mode switching.
- host_permissions (<all_urls>): Required by the tabCapture API to capture audio from any website you choose.
7. Children's Privacy
SoundEqual Pro is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Your Rights
Since we store no personal data on our servers, there is no data for us to provide, correct, or delete. All extension data is stored locally in your browser, and you can clear it at any time by:
- Right-clicking the extension icon → Remove from Chrome
- Or clearing Chrome's extension storage data
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
